Southern Lights

The dynamics of this work express a variety of emotions through color, the contrasting tones feel musical, communicating a bright and open feeling.

The colors of this quilt are hand-dyed with plants: indigo, madder root, osage heartwood, pecans, and oak gulls. Made with organic cotton and linen. Exquisitely hand-stitched in a repeating fan pattern, giving the quilt structure and longevity, while also creating depth and texture.

If the stitches in this quilt could play back the recording of time, it would sing a song of laughter and soft velvety conversations. The uplifting experience of connecting with a group of quilters inspired me to create this artwork. 

Made block-by-block, stitch-by-stitch, one step at a time, a human pace.

A bespoke heirloom quilt, hand-dyed with natural dyes, hand-quilted with cotton thread. Measures 51 inches X 51 inches.
