New Mexico Quilt
The culture of New Mexico is unique for it's strong Hispanic and Native American influences. The tribes in the state are mostly Navajo, Pueblo and Apache. I'm inspired by the myths and traditions of this land that explore the relationships among people and nature, plants and animals.
The appliqué designs are inspired by Native symbols. This quilt showcases symbols representing change, renewal and fertility.
Cotton hand dyed using natural indigo to achieve the blues and logwood and iron to achieve black.
Hand appliquéd and hand quilted in Austin with Japanese sashiko thread.
Hand finished with naturally dyed cotton from the same dye lot. The double-binding is folded over creating a durable edge and mitered corners.
Can be hung as a work of art or used as a throw quilt, accenting a couch or lounge chair. Would also work well draped at the foot of a twin or full size bed.
Arrives packed in a handmade, laser-etched cedar box.
