Labyrinth Quilt
There's a frenetic energy to wrangling creative ideas during a lively season of life. I feel this pattern represents the tedious and joyful experience that I've come to know as a working artist and mother. Repeating the square design from the center out felt like walking a labyrinth.
Making became a time of contempaltion, loosing track of time, direction and of the outside world, quieting the mind through a spiritual journey to enlightenment. Day by day I would return to my studio, one step at a time I assembled triangles, piece by piece, row by row, strip by strip, and eventually through determination and dedication a finished quilt emerged.
Every color in this quilt was naturally dyed using plants and the bright pink was dyed with cochineal - an insect that hosts on the Nepal cactus. I used my brightest hand-dyed colors to create a joyful rainbow effect that celebrates life - the life that provided these colors and the life of those that enjoy them.
Entirely hand-dyed and hand-quilted, filled with cotton batting, backed with cotton that is naturally dyed yellow, hand-finished binding.
