The inspiration for this project comes from my long-lasting friendship with Yasmine Ghoniem. We met at SCAD back in 2004, where she was studying Interior Design and I was in the Fibers Department. Over the years, we've stayed in touch and kept up with each other's work. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with her on a few rugs for her Sydney-based firm, YSG— Their projects are amazing, with such vibrant colors, rich textures, and eye-catching patterns. They're really making waves in the design world, though to me, Yas will always be my college mate.

Here's a look of the rugs alongside the quilts that inspired them. It's exciting to see how details from the quilts, like the wavy borders and raised textures around patch-worked shapes, have influenced the rug designs.

A few project details: the rugs are a one-off for a private client from South Africa, creating a very unique work space. The rugs are made by Tappeti with shiny bits of art silk to make them shimmer. If you have a favorite quilt of mine that you’d like to have as a rug —let me know and I can make that happen!

It's been a real delight to see Yasmine's incredible journey from her early days as a student, exploring ideas on rolls of vellum paper, to now running a successful multinational studio. What an impressive transformation! Her passion for design and commitment to excellence have clearly paid off, and it's exciting to see all that she's accomplished.
